Apology

3 years, 1 month ago by Bhakta Loren in Personal Sadhana Reports

Dear Guru Maharaja,

please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

When you texted me the reminder that annual disciple reports were due, it wasn't only that I felt bad about giving an honest assessment of how much i had fallen short of the minimums that you and Srila Prabhupada require your disciples to follow, but even worse, i lacked the resolve, maybe the desire or ability to vow to give my best in making up the difference.

The year before my initiation I was able to complete my rounds, and was for the most part maintaining the four principles. When i told Jaganaath Swami that I had hoped to ask you for shelter as your disciple I had been doing a fair amount of service at the temple and the festivals for a few years, but I knew that as a neophyte, to follow in the footsteps of a surrendered devotee of the Lord would be a challenge that I could only hope to rise to with the Lord's special mercy as I was clearly not "cooked all the way through". I was suprised but also felt thankful and blessed when a week or two later Jaganaath Swami told me that he recommended me to you as a prospective disciple and that an initiation could be scheduled the day after SF ratha yatra that year. Now I see that my biggest obstacle to truly surrendering- I unconsciously wanted to use Krishna Consciousness as a band-aid to a life where i was not able to find real peace, joy, and lasting fulfillment with otherwise. I found a faith (science) with a powerful spiritual practice, that i was trying to use to prop up my own separate life of sense enjoyment, never giving up- or understanding how to give up trying to be the enjoyer- to give up being so self-centered. I completed my rounds, plenty of service at the temple, taking part in sankirtan and book distribution. Took part in kirtan for the deities. It was though always in a sense "bhoga-tyaga". I felt blessed, comforted, protected, and elevated by the Lord's mercy that reached me. The service i performed were offerings out of gratitude to a Lord I could see was blessing and supporting me. Pretty far from uninterrupted and unmotivated.

Around summer 2020 I was invited to an online program that devotees from ISV had created during the start of the pandemic they called "Bhakti Community". I was touched that he took the trouble every monday and thursday to text me an invitation to the program. Even though this program is held using the zoom conferencing software, the kindness I felt on the part of the facilitating devotees and especially the often-MC Vaisesika Das made an impression. I wished that kindness would have been would have been more prevalent at the historic temple in Berkeley that I thought of as my home temple. I had been absent from the temple even some time before the pandemic, to avoid the fighting, gossip, and lack of courtesy that more than a few other devotees would say that you could expect there. The programs Bhakti Community hosted online would feature a video that was full to the top in Krishna Conscious philosophy from Prabhupada's books- presented a LOT of information in 5 - 10 minutes. After around 2 years of these twice-weekly sessions I felt encouraged and able to pick up and try again. This April they started a morning Japa circle call from 5 - 7 am. I joined that program and now have 16 good rounds completed every morning before 8 am. What I experienced doing this made clear that perhaps my biggest stumbling block was just looking at anything in this world as an accessory to my own enjoyment. Things that Prabhupada sometimes would describe as 'decorations on a dead body'. When chanting im finally touched with some love, peace, and satisfaction that I had been starving for.

Gurudeva, there are so many examples from the gates of Vaikuntha down to the hell realms of jivas that require making mistakes to learn an important lesson. I hope and beg that you could still accept me as your disciple in spite of my mistakes the past 2-3 years. I recently caught covid from home and it was one of the most painful illnesses I have ever experienced. I asked Krishna to accept that suffering as an offering for my purification. If there is anything i can do to atone for this period please let me know and consider it done. I hope my mistakes did not impact you negatively. I want to pursue spiritual life and wish to be a cooperating member of Iskcon and be of service to Lord Chaitanya's mission. I want to avoid any single thing that is not an asset to that goal. I want to thank you for your mercy and beg your forgiveness. Please let me know. Thank you Gurudeva

your servant,

Loka Bandhu Rama Das

PAMHR, TLGSP, Por favor disculpe nuestras torpezas.

PAMHO, AGTSP, Please excuse our awkwardness

I want to ask you some information about Bhaktivedanta Research Institute (Calcutta). In order to travel to India and get some job permissions in academic field, maybe I might do some courses in this Institute or search for an ISKCON letter. This letter has to include the idea that I am subscribing to a specialized course in vedic philosophy. Also this letter has multipurpose objective: visa and job notifications that allow me to get back to work after six months’ travel. You have already told us that you would stay in Calcuta (Kolkata), Manipur and Delhi on September. My husband Angirasa and I would be able to reach you there or in Vrndavan. Maybe you can help us to get this letter. The estimated time of the trip is from the end of September 2022 to April 2023.

HpS - AgtSP!!! Paoho. The contact that I have there is with Samanta Rudra. He is very nice person. About 60-years old. Big international business executive also.

If you send a note to our Whatsapp account I can send you his contact. I think I would be very practical for them to occupy you in your professional status, so send a bio-data with your first contact letter.

Thank you!!!!!!

Then we could stay in Braja until ... ? ... until November and return to Spain. Then he suggests visiting the Canary Island until February.

What do anyone else think?

Paoho

We are trying to arrange partnership between NIOS and Bhakti Vedanta Research Center in Kolkatta/Mumbai.

We made some suggestions to Sumana Rudra, director, about working on the Jung project ect and here is his answer:

"[4:24 PM, 5/7/2022] Hp Swami: Dear Maharaj,

My dandavat pranams to you. Hare Krishna!

I am sorry I could not revert to you earlier as I have been travelling extensively. We are very grateful for all that you have mentioned regarding working in collaboration with BRC.

We are eagerly looking forward to collaborating with NIOS for all the academic activities you have listed. We will share with you some reports of BRC activities and a couple of MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) we have with other institutions.

BRC will be very happy to host yourself and the NIOS team in September. I am happy to note that Radhika Raman Prabhu had recently participated in our conference “Bhakti in Vaishnava Tradtions”. It is a pleasure to know that Prabhu will also be part of the September conference. I will also connect with Dr. Samaresh as you have advised.

Thank you.

Regards,

Sumanta

[4:24 PM, 5/7/2022] Hp Swami: Prabhu... You are so merciful!  AgtSP!   I think you may be very busy. Did you have facility to call Dr. Samaresh Bandyopadyay about the two books. I think I attached them.

Hare Krsna Maharaja

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Thank you for your message. Yes I am back. And Yes all of us are anxiously waiting to see you in 12 days. I am busy helping devotees with our first solo Yatra. Kamalanand pr. had suggested that we are big enough now to do our own Yatra than be part of parade.

The devotees took up on the idea and all of us are hoping that with mercy from you and Deities we will be able to do it successfully.

Please advertise it on your blog and implore everyone who is going to come and see you in Boise to come during Ratha Yatra the weekend of June 4-5. It is on 5th from 12 to 4pm. And have them contact Sriman Nitisara Das, 503 307-8268, ASAP so we can plan for accommodations Prasadam etc.

Looking forward to your darshan and association

Hare Krsna Guru Maharaj,

Please accept our humble obeisances.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

In advance Gurudev we want to thankyou for being willing to tolerate us and our deficiencies. We notice that we have some organizational abilities but we can also see Krsna engages us in services for which we feel we lack skills in at times. Krsna has a great sense of humor (we were asked to give the Krsna Lounge talk on patience! Ha! Vaisheshika Prabhu gave a class on patience and referenced the Japanese art of Shankankan: focusing on cultivating one value at a time) Please help us refine this schedule Guru Maharaj. We learn a lot by watching your ability to prioritize and organize preaching endeavors first and foremost.

We have been trying to coordinate with Radhika Raman Prabhu, BSU events center, and other Boise devotees about schedule possibilities. Here are our notes on possible festivals, seminars, wisdom talks, and smaller SB/BG/ Sunday feast preaching opportunities thus far. We remember you had mentioned online seminar/meetings, needing time to interview/film so if the events mentioned below seem to extraneous (we could opt out Friday BG classes for example) please refine.

Murari prabhu would like to know the ideal grocery and supply list (raw milk,l potatoes, for Lord Nirsimha? Any butter, spices, etc) Possibly you can send us a Bhoga/supply list so we are not deficient in any items. Please let us know Gurudev how we can best serve you. Your happiness is our happiness. 🙏

Buck White - ASA - AgtSP!!! Potatoes for baking (white and sweet), carrots, sweet oranges and apples, split peas, salt, butter, black pepper, Oats, some nuts and milk....

Jaya Madan bihari Bhoga.

We would like to advertise the Thursday Krsna Lounge program lecture series (May 19th, 26th, June 2nd and 9th). Please let us know what title would work best for the series and any relevant description. Guru Maharaj you previously discussed CG Jung’s little red book as a focus for these nights or Light of Bhagavat: White cloud wandering monk visits Boise Krsna Lounge. We will make advertisements for the lecture series this weekend.

HpS - With Jaya Hari Das we caught Nitisara Das and also had some discussion with him.

Krsna lounge can be Floating White Cloud Monk visits Boise. [ ttd ] We will send you the soft file.

Title can be Science, Psyche and Spirituality - The Encounter of Carl Gustav Jung with the Bhaktisiddhanta of Traditional Inda.

What is the self beyond the body

What is the self as a body!

Go back to the world of 19th century Bengali mysticism and the formation of modern psychology with Jung and Freud.

Also we have asked BSU events about lecture hall rentals as well as a professor we know that should be able to secure the event for us l. We are looking at the first week Radhika Raman will be here since school will still be in session. Would Wednesday the 18th of May or Friday May 20th be too soon for a lecture?

Fine, same as above.

Should it be accompanied with a short cultural program before the event?

Always. 10-minutes of energetic Sumo wrestling.

Another option is to schedule the lecture the last week of May or second week of June when Radhika Raman returns.

Too many other things by then. Invite Lounge and BSU folk to visit each others programs.

The only drawback to a June event is Attendance would be lower due to summer school. Please also let us know the title of the lecture and short descriptions for the event Guru Maharaj. We would like to know more details about how long the lecture may be. Is this an event you are interested in Guru Maharaj? If not, we apologize for misunderstanding this outreach program.

All topics above. We will adapt to the audience once we see them.

Another highlighted event is Snana Yathra on May 22nd and bringing Jaganatha and company on the Rathayathra Paluquin through BSU to Julia Davis park on June 5th. We wanted to ask you Guru Maharaj what an appropriate name would be for the event. Festival of India, Boise Bhakti Festival, Festival of Peace or Chant for Peace Festival?

I think you already got some name. We would suggest - The Terrible Jaggernaut Rolls Again - For Five Thousand Years the Festival has been attended by thousands of ecstatic devotees of the Supreme Lord, Master of the Universe, and His beautiful festival rolls over the demons within and outside of crushing them into composte.

HpS - The NitiSara Das is looking, has he mentioned it? For two brothers to do professional video and picture recording of the event. Lot of thoughts about how to organize the parade.

Here is a series of proposed events for your approval:
