Dialog's with V. Gosh Das [230128-2.20pm]

[1/28, 12:48 PM] Basu Ghosh Das: 1. Bhakti Vikas Swami has advocated that all sides sit together at Mayapur, chant together in kirtan, and discuss the issue face to face. That hasn't happened.

2. ISKCON sannyasis aren't sannyasis strictly according to varnashram principles. Sannyas was given by Srila Prabhupada as a "preaching title", to facilitate preaching, but sure, strict standards of behavior and detachment from women were mandated. Unfortunately all sannyasis and diksha gurus were not able to strictly follow. In recent years, due to stricter regimen for screening sannyas candidates, the "fall down rate" as decreased considerably.  There are a number of "discontents" who will never stop criticizing ISKCON and its leaders. This doesn't mean that all ISKCON leaders are "perfect and pure".  It is particularly disturbing that so many are propagating gender equality and egalitarianism in ISKCON. A godbrother recently wrote to me:

It seems that you keep up with the news in the US, so I am sure you see the similarities between what's going on in ISKCON and western society. I believe it is because we are associating too closely with mundane culture since so many devotees have moved from the temples. With a lack of sadhana we become contaminated by that association, however we still want to be devotees so we adjust our philosophy to fit western culture. You heard Garuda Prabhu say he could never agree to anything less than the "ultimate Bhakti" and he is not the only one.

Around 15 years ago they tried to cancel me in Prabhupada VIllage, NC because I pointed out that there were two kinds of people in the world, men and women, and they had different roles to play in a Krsna centered culture. Didn't Srila Prabhupada say we should not try to become Sukadeva Goswami without attaining his level of consciousness?

[1/28, 12:51 PM] Basu Ghosh Das: 3. ISKCON India and its bureaucracy and influences.

Well, in India ISKCON has no women in managerial positions. No TPs, GBCs, etc. Bur sure, I am a grihasta, and there are a number of other grihastas in the management. In fact, sannyasis ideally should just preach, and not manage - but the reality is that some of them are in the management. Some of them won't retire from management duties, even if they are physically unfit to perform them!

[1/28, 12:54 PM] Basu Ghosh Das: Yes, in my article I did not deal with the honorific significance of "Mataji".  That would be a good subject to highlight in an essay, for sure. I will seriously consider writing on that topic at the earliest!

[1/28, 2:19 PM] HPSwami - ProfHHR: I was living as a Vanaprastha, B'cari, when I joined the Temple in San Francisco.

After ten years Hansadutta Das pushed several of us to take Sannyasa. I explained that I thought it was a kind of oxymoron because rather than being renounced of name and fame, you had to accept more.

He pushed and I accepted.

Then he fell down and GBC said that anyone who had taken Sannyasa from him in his big rush could continue with it if they accepted an ISKCON Guru as their Sannyasa guru.

I accepted that I could just return to the rather obscure position of B'cari ashrama, but Trikrama Swami, B. S. Damodara Swami, Ramesvara Swami, Tripurari Swami and Atreya Rsi Das all said, "No!

You've taken the vows. You stick with it!"

O.K.

Got 'reinitiated' into Sannyasa by H. H. B. S. Damodara Swami, my esteemed Sannyasa Guru.

Then... I experienced Kuti chaka, Bahudak, Parivrajak etc.

It came naturally.

First, I was living in one small loft room in a warehouse rented by the Temple and preaching and attending Temple programs and taking Prasadam and waking Deities and doing Mangala arati, but the Temple President still put pressure on me to use my Sannyasa status to support his political agendas since I was 'living' in his Temple.

So, I started staying with different devotees around the S.F. Bay Area, then Northern Califorinia, even passing nights under the bushes by the side of the road if that was not easily available.

Then I could still feel I was expectied to pull the Zonal line if I was getting shelter from people in the specific GBC's Zone.

So, with some fear I took off on a ride offered by Krsna to Seattle and Vancouver and did local preaching and worked to develop the visit of our Manipuri Troupe.

It was amazing.

Krsna seemed to be arranging transporation, accomodation and Sankirtan.

Came back thorugh the Bay Area but now as a new Parivrajakacharya preacher. Who had some seriouis conviction that Krsna really is guiding us and really does want the Kali yuga version of Sannyasa.

Other steps fit right into this Vedic pattern until I finally went all the way to Peru, out of the USA, with only $10 in my pocket, but with an experience that made me feel that it was exactly an arrangement of Krsna to show me that I should not waste "my mind and intelligence" thinking about this bodily maintenence. That was His job. I should focus on just traveling and peaching and realizing His guidance of Paramatma.

Seems that some people have taken Sannyasa vows, or think that their B'cari life is the same as a full Sannyasa, but are still taking subtle shelter, freedom from fear of being alone, of husband and wife, or mother, to be free of the political control/shelter of ISKCON.

Giving up these things they can really give unbiased advice.

Then they really become the essential shelter that Ksatriyas and Vaishyas need for subtle sense control. Stronger than the Ks. and Vaishya.

My hallucinations.

Thank you for your association.

Hope to hear more from you soon.

Help Dying Souls

Hare Krishna maharaj

Please accept my humble obeisances

My dear friend's Kamal Prabhu is brahmchari in ISKCON Kolkata. Yesterday night his mother suddenly left her body due to cardiac arrest.

I heartily request you to offer prayer for her. Wherever she is destined to go may she get the association devotees and opportunity to practice Krishna Consciousness

Your aspiring servant

Ranal

ASA - Seems to us that having left the 1st world, bhu mandala, the departed soul may sometimes, often (?), be hanging around in the the second world, bhuvah mandala, the world of thoughts, dreams, plans, memories, which is the cause of our perception in the 1st world.

To help them, generate Krsna conscious thoughts by chanting Hari Nama in front of a picture of them, offer them carana amrta, maha-prasad et al.

during our stay in rAdha kunda, after gaura arati in the evenings, we have recited for the devotees over 700-verses (seven zatAkas) from zrIla prabhodananda sarasvati's "vRNdAvana dhAma mahimAMRta".

we find it very inspirational.

we pray to lAlita devi to understand our relation to author and article.

we have noticed that it provokes excellent introspection to substitute the word "iskcon" or "chanting the maha-mantra" for the word "vRNdavana".

Eg. only blind fools see faults in iskcon. iskcon is perfect in every way. does not everyone laugh at them. i only pray that i not see their faces at the time of death.

immediately i think of the repulsion i have for such iskcon entitites as arrogant aggressive, violent temple presidents or other administrators, and then i realize that all this time i could have had a different attitude to them. Eg. i could have fought back or better called out to krsna and balarama for help when attacked us, like bakasura attacking the cowherd boys.

Another example: even though i am arrogant, deceitful, lusty, greedy, offensive and a thief; i still somehow or other pray to the maha-mantra to never leave my tongue and heart and purify all of my bad qualities.

paoho

we are looking forward to h. p. swami's, in vrndavana, vyasapuja with confusion, interest, hope and anxiety.

"We know that our honest attempt to present this great literature [event] conveying transcendental messages for reviving the God consciousness of the people in general and respiritualizing the world atmosphere is fraught with many difficulties. Our presenting this matter in adequate language, especially a foreign language, will certainly fail, and there will be so many literary discrepancies despite our honest attempt to present it in the proper way. But we are sure that with all our faults in this connection the seriousness of the subject matter will be taken into consideration, and the leaders of society will still accept this due to its being an honest attempt to glorify the almighty God."

Yet there are those who we respect followers of Srila Prabhupada, but have terrible and even apparently very selfish arguments about how to respect him and understand guru and guru-puja in iskcon. how to relate to them?

noi 5 seems to answer that question in detail.

at some point you have make a decision to go ahead with some conviction in your understanding of KRSNA and Guru and not be paralyzed by the opinion of others.

In any public assembly there will be different classes of people and whenever you are put in a prominent position you will be envied.

The more advanced we are, the more we can go ahead with some authority and at the same time consider it just an arrangement of Krsna, not our personal qualification, and become more and more adept in seeking the feedback and inspiration of others while we act.

Arjuna had to take an extreme authority, he had to decide who to kill, but even to the end he was willing to consider criticism of his position, while duryodana was convinced of his opinion of things and not being a gentlemen.

What shall we offer for Bhoga for Guru and Krsna.

For Radha Krsna, your understanding is as good as mine.

For our Istadevata, Lord Nrsmhadeva, there should at least be pasta and beans!

Good American food!

Tamales etc. O.K.

Hare Krsna. Find your place in the choir and promote leadership from your unique position.

BellyButton Service (BBS)

1 year, 11 months ago by hps in Personal Sadhana Reports, Special Category B

AGTSP.

As you may have heard, Brother Ass's Belly Button is bright red and producing a little oozing for maybe two weeks now.

We agree with Prabhodananda Sarasvati that it is better to die of starvation, exposure, or rot from innumerable diseases than teave Vrndavana Dhama (ISKCON [stop chanting Holy Names]), yet without giving up our worship of the Holy Dhama, and accepting Krsna's decision to kill us and send us to another body, we should try to deal with these problems of the body within our medical capacity.

  1. Arun Chakraborty, highly decorated Ayurvedic doctor and very nice Krsna devotee, diagnosed the problem as fungal infection and first put us on an anti-fungal cream. It apparently did nothing. - Round One to the Invader.
  2. He then suggested going on ten days of anti-biotic which did nothing but seemed to give us expected stomach pains and general weakness. - Round Two to the invader.
  3. Vipin suggest Detol (?) regular Indian antibiotic soap, which we would have taken as first treatment, but now because the inflamation is chronic, we will adopt it casually along with other medical advice.
  4. We sent the case study to our Primary Care Physician, Dr. Amit Singh, who he says, we met as a Gurukula boy in Vancouver Temple, but is now adult with two daughters, and he agreed that a lab test might be in order and it was probably bacteria. We also have some inflamation in one point n the mouth which is recurrent, but seems a little more vigorous, and in general we wonder if this is a result of constant submission to the AQI of 150+ in India, Radha-kunda coupled with our 70% Pitta nature.
  5. Majority decision of local devotees was to visit Dr. Anil Agrawaal in Mathura at his very robust dermatology clinic. It was a three hour excursion with Ranchor and Krsna Swarupa Das (how is Krsna Loka??) and he put us infront of 20-other paitents waiting for the days interviews and promptly diagnosed our red Belly-button as allergic reaction. He gave us after-breakfast and lunch tablets, and morning and evening topical creams and said come back in 15-days.

There is no pain or itching, but it does look little frightful, like something from an Alien sci-fi movie.

So, that's the news on our Buddy, Body, Burro. We hope this satisfys the many enquiries, and the satisfaction that we feel in Vrndavana Dhama is so substantial that we can realize that if we use too much energy trying to perfect our body, which is designed of recycleable material, and don't use it to wake up to Gokula. Goloka then we are silly asses.

  • Vrndavana Dhama Ki Jai!
  • IKSCON, Ki Jay!
  • Yuga-dharma, Nama-Sankirtan, Ki Jai!

Please keeo me always dust of your Divine lotus feet...

[12/9, 4:53 PM] HPSwami - ProfHHR: 🐄🐄🙂🐄 this is for us, HpSwami, et al?

Maybe following us like a cowherd boy with stick in hand.

👍

We read "Vrndavana Dhama Mahima-amrta" each night with devotees.

Is interesting if we substitute "iskcon" for "Vrndavana" in his glorification.

Maybe even more potent to substitute "Maha-mantra".

Rama is the source of the Dhamas where Hara and Krsna play.
