What do we have to wonder? If we entertain with even a little bit of sincerity such great classics as India’s Vishnu-puran then we can begin to see the light in life, but that is just the beginning. Do you have high aspirations in life our esteemed Readers? Where did they come from? Unless the Supreme itself favors us how can we go beyond the rational aspect of the mind?

Let us consider the primacy of the compassionate feminine nature in approaching the most intimate aspects of Divinity as personified by such ladies and Laksmi, Mary, Kahdijah, and also the primacy of developing a good idea of education and opportunities for character development for girls so they can play their primary role in creating a world where we can be one in peace, prosperity and friendship with a common cause.

Call for Papers: As with previous years NIOS by this announcement is requesting any interested persons to submit papers for publication and presentation at the Annual Symposium. Event:

·         Also as usual the academic section will be accompanied by the traditional Akhanda Sankirtana, 12-hours of continuous, melodious chanting of the Maha-mantra, Hare Krishna / Hare Rama.

·         Also meeting of Organizers for a 2014 symposium on educational development to be co-sponsored by NIOS is planned. Again, at this time contact Professor Robinson for any information about the event.

NIOS Publications

·         Felicitations Volume: Through the super human efforts of many people the much awaited copies of PRACYAPRAJNAPRDIPA – Professor Dr. Samaresh Bandyopadhyay Felicitations Volume on Early Indian History and Culture have arrived in USA. Anyone interest in purchasing copies please contact Thanu Subramanian at [email protected]. The volume is over 600-pages with contributions from Former Minister of Education of India and many esteemed scholars. Obviously we are extremely short of help to do the proper promotion work for the volume in both India and USA. If you can help in this regard please contact us.

·         Museum Volume: The volume featuring the contributions to the symposium co-sponsored by NIOS and the Indian Museum in Kolkatta, May 2012, is nearing completion and represents an extremely interesting compendium on the current thinking on the symposium topic by some of the most representative minds of modern India and abroad: The Contribution of Classical Indian Culture Toward Making a Better World.

·         Every Bear Can Dance, the astonishing biography of an evangelical ISKCON book distributor, Jambavati Devi Dasi, is complete in both Spanish and English in both an dramatic audio and printed format. Again it lacks help to promote and distribute it but preliminary reviews all come back the same way, “Could not put it down”.

NIOS On Tour

Hanumatpresaka Swami, Professor Huber Hutchin Robinson, returned June 1^st from a heroic four month tour through Europe, India and Australia. This included over 25-airplane jaunts, bone-wracking jeep journeys into the remotest and unpaved villages of Assam, Manipur and Burma, forming a part of India’s culturally rich Northeast provinces. Numberless symposia on the NIOS favored Light of the Bhagavata, profoundly well received lectures at Australia’s premier Monash University, Kolkatta’s Rabindra Bharati University, University of Madrid and the Bhaktivedanta College in Belgium. Of course, the credit for all these events goes to legions of highly elevated souls, but we especially want to thank Professors Ian Mabbet of Monash University and our own Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Samaresh Bandyopadhyay.

Plans

·         With the good aegis of our Principal Advisor NIOS hopes to soon establish a formal relation with Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkatta. This would especially allow for publication of extremely interesting and as yet unaccessible classical literature.

·         Very progressive meetings have been realized between directors of the Goloka Trust from Mumbai, India, and Professor H. H. Robinson and Abhiseka Singh of NIOS. http://golokaeducation.com/ . These reveal that NIOS has a very bright future with Mr. Singh and his youthful friends joining for developing classical education all across America in the form of primary school franchises. These would compare with such schools as the Montessori or Waldorf schools. This would include consulting for local primary and later secondary and even graduate school development, text-book and curriculum development. Of course, this is so popular because India at its core has great gifts in education and character development to offer the world.

·         Programs in South America are going on with hopes of a tour by Hanumatpresaka Swami in the Fall of 2013. This would include, of course, our old friends, Ricardo Palma and San Marcos University in Lima, Peru; Federico Santa María Technical University, the “Cal-tech” of Chile and programs in Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina. These are not confirmed yet since Professor Robinson is really stepping back to make first consideration writing and publishing. His current focus is a presentation on SANKHYA: Classical Oriental Philosophy of Nature.

·         Locally, in Tennessee, besides its annual symposium, NIOS has been again invited to participate in the Celebrate Nashville Festival, which it has helped to pioneer, on the 5^th of October; and continues its active efforts to develop good academic and cultural relations with local scholars and universities.

             AGTSP    paoho.          Still in Houston.  Here until 26th  then to Denver.   Denver is 5,300 ft. high.  First time we are there for maybe 7-8 years.  Very elevated state of consciousness.   Mountains.          NOw we are doing Mangala arati and extra Japa in the Temple every day.    Japa Joe 1.30-3.30AM.            Then we work on the Japa Joe Power point and struggle with falling asleep to get our Bhakti Vaibhava work done.

             Our number one associate is Hari lila Das!!!                   BhVai, Canto One  Review classes each Mo, Tu, We   with lots of devotees.   Is sooooooo nice to just go through the chapters and their highlights with nice devotee.                  Health is good.  Eyes can't handle to much mail  etc.         Several ASA: NIOS, MED projects going.

                  O. Paoho....  Oink!      Oinnk!         Whoop!    Whoop!             Click!/Click!      (How does Patrak Das translate, "Oink!   Oink!   Whoop!   Whoop!" into Spanish?  What does a pig or monkey say in Spanish?    "Click/Click" is what we guess a scientist would say.)

                Here we (Monkey/Piggy et al) are still in Houston, Texas, ISKCON.  We look out from our second story, royal apartment in the new Sannyasi Palace. It is very nice facility. We have a sitting room, bedroom and private bath. There are three more rooms like this and a common library/conference room, dinning room and kitchen. It is all on Radha Lane, which has two of six planned houses done.

It is three minute walk past all devotee houses to  Radha Nila-madhava's Temple, but we always try to remember that the buildings are not the best measure of the Bhakti. The service of the Deities, the Sankirtana, the Sadhana are also very important, essential.

                  You can see from the letters that we are struggling just like you - some better, some worse than us.   We just caught up all the letters to three days ago!    We have 14-letters there to answer.   We are suffering like anything from social and political violence that we get ourselves into because of our arrogance and also because we are trying to serve Srila Prabhupada as Sannyasis.

Also, we are satisfied with the intellectual contribution that we can make in classes and counseling.   There is so much we could write:

~ Who - Hari lila Das has been so, so, attentive to Lord Nrsmhadeva's needs and our Sankirtana partner. Also prominent is Radha Krsna das B'cari, but many more here. 

~We talk with Nitai-gaurasundara Das about every three days and Dr. Samaresh each week. We are doing Web-page development for the Ministry and increasing Sastric studies. We have a letter to answer from Dinadayal Das and Braj-bihari Das in this regard, and we have to do our BhVaibhava study next.     It is 5PM.   [We have to get some confidential ecstacy daily].

~NIOS development involves work with Dr. Samaresh, M. Jambavati's book and trying to develop our relationship with Goloka Education. You can google their web page. Whatever it says there they actually do.

~~    It seems that a lot of this is being able to get these all projects on a simple calendar, priority list and then progress little by little. Hansadutta told us that he had to go full-bore on one projects and get it done. He could not keep may rods in the fire at the same time.      It is tough for us also and we have a LOT of anxiety that we are taking proper care of things.       We must chant more and surrender all these plans to Krsna.

~ ~We just woke up Lord Nrsmhadeva and the Berkeley Temple altar. We offered Them a pint of water. We cook for the Lord daily now!    Garbanza beans and split green-peas, carrots, parsely, ghee and salt.  For breakfast fruit and milk.   Some Maha-prasadam from Radharani and Nila-madhava.  In the afternoon, maybe fruit and milk. After class, some fruit.

~ ~ ~ Today we did Japa Joe! (After two hours rest last night). Mangala arati - more Japa.      [About 7-people for Mangala arati. Radharani is so beautiful.]     Had a two hour nap. We gave Temple class, listened to Hawaii class, we give it tommorrow, pretty nice work on the Japa Joe power point show for Proffessor Campbell, had a two hour nap, will present at the 'Simple Living High Thinking' weekly meeting in the Gauranga Hall. [It is for Non-Indians, Westerners.  Nice program!]   (We were not supposed to do this, one class a day, but it was scheduled without Hari-lila Swami's knowledge) then run back to our Ashrama in the Sannyasi Palace and do our Bhakti Bhaibava Partner Study Meeting wit Sri Hari Das.

~Hmm?  Letter to Braja and Dinadaya????

~ ~ ~ Now we will just write our ideas for the theme for NIOS annual event.  What do you think. Then we have to do our Bh. Vai, SB 4.9 studies and take a quick bath following our Sannyasa Guru, B. S. Damodar Swami and chant 12-more rounds to keep up with our25-32/day.

          Ha!   Ha!   Haw Ray!           When we write it all down. It is insane. Seems like six hours/day rest in three 2-hour naps. We could eat a little better and probably reduce and regulate our sleep a little more. So, you can see, we are not Uttama adhikari yet but we are in progress. We offer our respects to the so, so many more advanced devotees in ISKCON than us.  When we look out at the devotees in front of us, we can honestly look at each one and think, "Yes, in terms of his position it is quite possible that he is more advanced than we are". We don't know.

P   paoho.    Last night in NIOS/Tennessee. Sunday.   Tommorrow to Houston. Health and energy up to normal (for 65-years old).     We've answered the mail up to 6-days ago, and all the projects seem to be reasonably under control. We are still getting pressure to do more than we should, but we are dealing with it pretty well. Daivi-varna-ashrama-dharma Ki Jai!
