AVESA RUPA PRABHU NOS DEJA

4 years, 1 month ago by jayanta in Sankirtana / Temple Activity Reports

Hare Krisna Gurudev.

Pamho.

Boise in August and your film

4 years, 1 month ago by Nick Delffs in Sankirtana / Temple Activity Reports

Hare Krishna, Guru Maharaja. Please accept our humble obeisances and all glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Maharaja, I heard today in class that you will be coming to Boise in August. Please let us know what we can do. Buy your plane ticket, arrange programs...

HpS - A thought. Maybe.... Many things needed to accomplish that. Make it useful. At least we can have online anniversary of Deity installation!

The Boise temple is surviving. We are in a transitional phase in terms of leadership as you probably know.

My services are increasing all the time and I’m trying to maintain balance in all aspects. I definitely feel like a monkey or a dog in devotee dress. An imposter trying to get by, hoping no one will notice. Ultimately trying to know my own shoe size.

Maharaja, Anadi “my” wife has been doing 6 Mungal [Mangala] arti pujari services a week among many other services and her back is giving out. She’s been in so much pain that she could no longer do them and we have no one else here at the moment to do the services so I have been covering her services on the alter. I have had very little training and it’s been very intimidating and stressful but also very blissful. Please give us your blessings in regards to this temporary arrangement.

Maharaja, what are your requirements for second initiation? I have not completed my Bhakti Sastri yet.

HpS - Basically that you have come to a Brahminical level by your service. [https://vedabase.io/en/library/bg/18/42/]. Find Brahma muhurta useful. Regular Japa. Reading for purification and to acquire knowledge. Bh Sastri is not required but in general good.

We have a lot of small libraries or big mail box kind of things in our neighborhood. They say leave a book take a book. We’ve been putting a lot of small Prabhupada books https://www.janisjoplin.net/life/quotes/in them steadily for the last few months and books are going and not coming back. Is this okay to distribute books like this? It almost seems too easy.

HpS - I remember one funny monolog by Janis Joplin (what do you think of this: https://www.janisjoplin.net/life/quotes/) where she asks her doctor about her drinking habits and her black doctor says, "Honkey you doin, juz fine". What you describe seems just the same: Nitisara Das, you doin juz fine! Keep it up.

I am excited about this Diary of a Traveling Creature: The last trip. I would love to serve the project in some way. I have many song ideas and access to a very nice recording studio here in Boise. But I want to go where I am needed so please let me know how I might be best suited for this if I am at all. A good old close friend is writing screen plays for Hollywood films now. He says it all depends on who you know and what big actors and actresses you can get. He may be able to help the project in someway.

Also, I personally know a man named Jonathan Taplin. He was the manger for The Band, produced the concert for Bangladesh with Goerge Harrison, produced Martin Scorseses first film, I believe he was a professor at Berkeley for some time, he’s also written some successful books on music history and releasing music in the modern world. Anyway, I’ve worked with his son on three full length albums and have a good connection to him. He is God conscious and may be able to help as well.

HpS -Super. Tomorrow we can look at Ambarisa/Vrsabhanu's work and see if our perspective is up on Youtube. What you are saying fits so well into what we want to do.

Welcome to:

Hari Wood

I really appreciated what you said a few months ago when you were talking about Gandhi the film. “Movies happen because God wants them to” I am keeping this in mind as I am trying to release another album and struggling and almost giving up.

Maharaja, please forgive me if I am wasting your time here. I also have faith and trust that you don’t waste your time.

But please let me know if any of this is useful to you.

I know that my main service to you is to chant my rounds enthusiastically, follow the principles strictly and rise by 4am to do morning program. I have so long to go just to improve these services so this is what I’m trying to focus on and prioritize.

Your classes continue to give me hope and inspiration and get me through almost every work day. Thank you Maharaja for having mercy on me and giving me such a clear connection to this most highest philosophy.

We hope and pray that we may see you in August. Please let us know what we can do to facilitate.

your aspiring servant,

-Nitisara das

P.S. Thank you so much for your letter. We relished every word and illustration. We have been discussing your question about Gandhari. Was she a good mother to Duryodhana? Is this a question of following Vedic culture verses following Vaishnava principles? How do we understand?

Some ideas. SP only gives a few comments about her as we know. So many characters, men and women, in the Maha-bharata seem to be like us, devotees with material attachments, going through strong experiences to get free from them.

One line comment will do

4 years, 1 month ago by harsh_horse in Personal Sadhana Reports

Hare Krsna Maharaj, PAMHO, AGTSP.

After divine intervention, we got many people referring to Dr. Brian Weiss.

So we read some of pages on progression " Same soul many bodies".

We come to one line motto now. In life, there are no unfulfilled desire, but only unlearned lessons.

Please comment or validate or correct

HpS - Hmmm. Seems like good idea. but is such a short aphorism that can be interpreted in different ways. I think is good attitude for you and me!

Of course, Kardama and Devahuti is example of fulfilling desires as a lesson.

Hare Krsna - Sadhana & Jung Reading

Hare Krishna, Guru Maharaja. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Below is a report about my Sadhana and progress in reading Memories, Dreams, and Reflections.

Sadhana

Solely through Srila Prabhupada's mercy and your blessings, Guru Maharaja, I am waking up at 4 AM for at least 5 days of the week (sometimes 6 days). I chant 5-7 rounds before Mangala Arati which I attend either on FMP or with my parents in front of Gaura-Nitai. After that, I chant the rest of my rounds, bathe, dress, and perform Sringara Arati for Gaura-Nitai, and listen to Srimad-Bhagavatam class. In the evening, I listen to a Bhagavad-Gita class given by Srila Prabhupada. I pray to you, Guru Maharaja, that I can improve the quality of my chanting, as you mention that the success of our education is measured by how pure and sincere our chanting is (vidya vadhu jivanam).

HpS - ASA - Super! What you are doing is not a small accomplishment. Usually ladies have very big responsibility for keeping family life on an even keel, so we hope that a few years as a Brahmacarini will be big help later.

So much Sankirtana we can all do, even if we are in Grhastha ashrama. You family is very great example of that.

What about your regular daily school Sadhana?

Memories, Dreams, and Reflections

Though pages I read after first reporting contained a lot of intriguing information (like Jung's first neurosis), Guru Maharaja, I will include a few points here.

HpS - Neurosis would be mental illness. This is a central controversial theme of dealing with Jung's experiences. Some say "spiritual visions", some say "psychosis", but to me so far, and I certainly find comments by others such as yourself very enriching, that he was having genuine experiences on the Hiranya garbha level of the universe as described in the SB.

1) Virat Rupa: Guru Maharaja, you often mention Jung's particular connections with the Virat Rupa. I liked one of the autobiography's sentences in this regard: "Nature seemed to me full of wonders, and I wanted to steep myself in them. Every stone, every plant, every single thing seemed alive and indescribably marvelous" (32).

2) Two personalities: Jung describes how he had an intense feeling of being two different persons. One identity from the eighteenth century that was characterized by power, influence, and an affinity towards 18th century apparel, shoes, sculptures, and carriages. The other identity was that of a poor schoolboy, living in the 19th century, who did not have much power or influence. In the following pages, he goes on to claim that every person has two kinds of personalities (1. the mundane personality that deals with our present experiences in the material world 2. a transcendent personality in which nothing separates man from God) (45). He later analyzes his mother through her two personalities as well.

Guru Maharaja, could you kindly enlighten me on how to make sense of the 2nd personality that Jung discusses through a Gaudiya perspective? Are there any chapters/verses of our scriptures that I could read to understand his ideas better? Jung describes, how, through the 2nd personality one can marvel at the entire cosmos and forget oneself. Guru Maharaja, I was wondering if this related to your previous comment about Jung being at the Hiranya Garbha level, which is above the Virat Rupa conception but below Paramatma realization.

HpS - Let us archive these discussions. One thing is that I think Jung's own experiences and understandings were maturing and changing as he did this work. He even says that as far as I know. He even expressed that all of his cosmology was a first guess, maybe by a person with a lot more experience than his peers, but still he was quite open to other ideas.

Then, his experience two persona, is not incompatible with our perspective, no? We accept vasana past life experiences, persona, buddhi, intelligence, that we bring with us into this life, and maybe into the next.

I would say that more than two is more practical but his deep one may have been something he had been working on for a long time.

3) The problem of evil: It is discussed how Jung could not make sense of the fact that God saw this world, after creating it, and thought "it was good," despite there being so much suffering and evil present here. He engages with Goethe's Faust and various philosophical and theological works to find an answer, but does not arrive at any substantial conclusion (60). So far, he hasn't discussed the theological concept of free will, Guru Maharaja. But, I was wondering if the concept of free will, and by extension, Karma could solve Jung's conundrum. The concept of Karma also eventually leads to a discussion of reincarnation, which could relate to Jung's preoccupation and connection with the 18th century.

HpS - I think his final conclusions were rather tinted with Darwinism, that the person is not exactly re-incarnating, but the persona is. This is more Buddhist. He like Buddhism. I don't think he met a good Vaisnava guru. He was in India during the time of Bh. Siddhanta as far as I know, but there was no contact. He even commented as we remember that he knew that India and Asia were the solution but he and Europe were not ready for it then. Maybe now they are ready.

Destiny, Karma.

I think our discussions are good and then we hope that Shonu Shamdasini or others will be able to present Jung's side better than we, and we can have a useful mining of jewels from Jung and the Bhagavata.

Of course, Bhakti rasa amrta sindhu, is fantastic basis for comparative discussion. There are translations and commentaries by David Haberman, and then Srila Prabhupada (!), Danurdhara Swami and Viola Spolin's works.

Thank you very, very much, Guru Maharaja, for allowing a fallen soul like me to do some service under your invaluable guidance. As you suggested, I will report on every Caturthi from now on about my reading.

With immense gratitude and appreciation,

your insignificant servant,

Sugopi Radha Devi dasi

HpS - Thank you. We are 90% invalidated by this Hay Fever, but Dr. Amit and Vijaya are suggesting Claratin and then continue to try to adjust our metabolism by Ayurveda! Jaya!

Hare Krsna.

HpS - We have near mortal Hay Fever reaction, but resting and Pranayama has put it under moderate limits. Consulting with out Dr. Amit Singh. Parents devotees and he was Gurukula dude.

Good to hear from you.

We looked at Episode One from your link and had many, many thoughts. To try to discuss the most salient:

So many of the images are BBT images. Do you have copyrights to use them. I have seen then stop projects that seemed to be well done in the past.

Srila Prabhupada, to our understanding, was rather pragmatic about these preaching efforts: Are people buying books. At the end of the episodes do you have promotional links for purchasing BBT books?

The technical quality and narrations are quite good.

Seems you need to get an audience reaction to evaluate the project for further development.

One big Indian cinema director approached Prabhupada for his blessings to serialize the SB as a television show. SP kept saying over and over again, "Do first two Cantos", but he kept insisting all ten Cantos. In the end SP said, "Okay, do that." Look at SB 2.2.12 (https://vedabase.io/es/library/sb/2/2/12/) at the end of the purport especially.

That then brings the idea of mixing information on a subject from 1st and later cantos. Maybe we must hear about Brahma's later pastimes of creation along with the other education the SB is giving us to bring us to the more advanced cantos. Of course, devotees who are familiar, spiritual advanced, would seem to like to hear these extracted lines of different persons. Eg. Someone can extract all the education on Sri Dharma from 1st to 10th canto and advanced devotees will appreciate it.

These are some of our thoughts.

We can't really enter too much into giving you much more detailed guidance because our donkey is old and his feet are slipping. Get advice from others also.

What we see so far is very nice, but there are the considerations mentioned above.

Thank you!!
