By your causeless mercy I got to put my hands and eyes, and hopefully reason, and most hopefully heart into this nice book by TKG and Garuda Prabhu. Is not an easy read with all the english words that I do not see often, so had to read with dictionary, but also not an very heavy read.

Please find down my foolish notes of the reading.

HpS - AgtSP. We also have to use a dictionary. He is using the technical language of Theologians.

Until now (Friday, July 18, 2014) I read the Introduction and chapters 1 to 3.

Maybe is one of first time I read such an academic work. Book which is made according to academia. I do not feel and have need now to comment on the book itself, just will share points that I find interesting. Actually, these are not all points that struck me, but for the reason of time I will present few.

  • In connection to different studies of ISKCON – never imagined that so many studies have been done about ISKCON, albeit with discrepancies. Funny to see how a person made study of devotees by making the study of a community that is known as not up to the ISKCON standard. Also, to note that even though a person may have some talent as an academic, still that does not make him professional and fully to the point. That may be seen by many studies that had wrong approach. It reminds me of a point that whatever talent a person have, that should be used in service of Krsna, if not, it almost seems useless. I say that even though it sounds fanatical <img alt="angel" height="23" src="http://hps-d6.monkeywarrior.com/sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/angel_smile.png" title="angel" width="23" />
  • There are nice histories of Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati and Srila Prabhupada. Incredible how a manjari comes into material world in a family of a sakta worshipers, does not approach the Vedas, all to up some point and then does an incredible work in preaching and writing.
  • There is nice description of what books SP used for doing his work of writing books. The summaries of SB chapters are by Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati. SP starts using them from the end of 4th Canto.
  • Sweet revelation by Garuda Prabhu of word ‘gauda’ and its connection to the essence of Gaudiya vaisnavism
  • Description of paribhasa sutra of SB given by Jiva Goswami. What is paribhasa sutra and which verse it is.
  • Nice historical account of ISKCON, and how others see/saw ISKCON
  • The point how a selective out-of-context readings of topics of SP books is wrong and brings to wrong conclusion
  • There is mention of Bhaktivonoda’s   Dasa-mula-tattva which are then dividedinto sambhanada , abhideya and prayojana setting
  • In chapter 3 (collage setting) there is  astonishing expression of  situation where SP describes his faith as “practically lost” due to bad association!
  • Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati introduced bhakti-sastri in 1919, and there was also some kind of study called acarya

Basically, up to now, we were exploring the past of Srila Prabhupada. Now we are ready to hear about his two mahavakyas.  Can’t wait to dive into the nectarean ocean.

Thank you.

HpS - ASA - We read a lot of it several years ago, but we are going through more seriously now. We are still on the Introduction.

One of our very important notes is the citation on Page Four Julius Lipner. As far as I understand he is one of the top authorities in Indological studies and to be able to cite his evaluation of the book would have great weight in Indological circles. Other scholars cited are known as devotees within academic community or I don't know their social standing.

We go on, running in the dust of your progress.

HpS - ASA - Muy bien. TlgaSP. Entonces.
Music, Baile y el Libro KRSNA, no?!!

BLog stuff.

I asked about the standard for gentleman's in Japa Joe and you said to me, I have to send my doubt by the blog. and a copy of standard for ladies:
Well, here we go...

ASA - Standard for Ladys

by Guy "Uncle" Gismo
President of the ASA Civil Deadman's Society

(rev. 2014 May 26)

1) No, mini-skirts, dresses should be no higher than mid-calf, and usually longer.
2) Only short term contact with the opposite sex for preaching purposes.
3) Should get married by 15-years old ideally but in Kali-yuga get advice from six good people about the sitution. Actually
best thing is to marry Krsna, the King of Vrndavana.

4) Don't talk with weak-minded Dudes in secluded places.
5) Don't bite people. Ask Radharana to ask Krsna and Balarama to protect you. Chant Hare Krsna and be happy.
6) Only listen to music, watch movies, read books that you would see with Srila Prabhupada.
7) Ignore all these rules if Krsna personally tells you to do so.

Thank you. We will try to follow this standard also. Please send your ideas to the Blog.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One more little thing, the Blog was have a search bar, where you can search by word and now have not. Is a shame, because with that, we can put a simple concept ("envy" "gratitude" like that) and can read what u answer about that. Sorry for ask, but it was usefull for me.

Quick report.
16x108 (or more) + 4 ok!
finish NOI no exam.

In my next personal letter I will answer all the question you made to me.
Thanks for be patient with me, my selfishness and foolishness have no limits but, by your mercy I can connect with my escence.Hare Krsna. DANDAVATS PRANAM

Thanks for your time and for engage me in service. jay SP!

HpS - ASA --- AGTSP paoho.
1. Monkey and Piggy suggest that you and maybe Candra-mukhi and anyone else should write a "Standard for Boys" for the ASA/ISKCON and they will edit it. (Buck the Butcher and Tom the Trampler)

2. The Web-page needs a Web-master, and team decision about Content. One groups is NIOS-Nashville, another is NIOS-Indological Studies. Our own NIOS work is really ASA right now. We can discuss it with the members here.

We will have to Publish this letter before we can see a full size copy of the picture. All we can see on this letters to answer section is small image. So, we will Publish it and that will send a copy to you and then we will add more thoughts here and Publish that edited version. You will get a second copy then...

.....  Looks more professional. That favors the Indological side. In the Menu bar on the right, after Archives I would add, Bookstall.

Other stuff like details for our local Rathayatra etc. we can put in as separate links in the advertising stuff we do.

Instead of Home I would put Reception Desk.

Your monkey looks like it is doing the Tango.

3. Send another Letter with "What Happened to the Blog Search Button" as the title and lets see if we can get Prahlada's interest?

AGTSP!
paoh    ..o'.....

7.00PM... Little summer rain ourside. Packing to go to NGD's Ashrama for Friday night program. We have BhVai meeting with Srivasa Pandita Das 8.30-9.30 AM Friday and then 11-12PM is the Hawaii class with two former Sannyasis et al! Then evening program. Is busy day.

Get a little chest pain.

Hmmmm! Is partly our addiction to p-nut butter, honey and bananas, and partly natural result of living. After this NAS we will not take anymore administrative projects for MOE et al.
