In the beginning we appreciate God is Great, but then later we begin to appreciate the details, how He is great. Then we begin to appreciate specifically how He is great in terms of our individual service. For example, in Brhad Bhagavat amrta, Gopa kumar says that he knows that Krsna has devotees in other places like Vaikuntha and Ayodhya but his mind just can't stayed fixed on that kind of service and doing service there kind of seems like being in hell!
