Tomorrow is the Vyasa PUja of my dear god brother, HH Bhakti Swarupa Damodar Goswami.
He is very dear to Srila Prabhupada. As a science student he was able to ask all the right questions so that Srila Prabhupada could put the modern scientists in the right perspective.
He was also one the first Indian born devotees to get initiated by Srila Prabhupada.
I had second initiation at the same time as him. I did not know him as he was a Ph.D. science student coming to LA every morning form Laguna Beach and going on the walk with Srila Prabhupada, and going back to school.
I was very nervous going Srila PRabhupada's room. Of course he was very open and kind. He asked how many were waiting downstairs. I answered and Srila Prabhupada asked, with a big smile, "and there is one Indian boy?". I said, "I think he is Japanese". Srila Prabhupada smile faded. I had hardly ever seen an India person other than Srila P.abhupada. Manipurians look much like Japanese. Japanese devotees, if they dress and walk with a Manipura goup can enter Jaganath Puri temple. They blend in.
He is national hero in Manipura. He was one of the first to study in the US. And he preached there wonderfully. The temple there is spectacular. He sang like a gandharva. His childhood friends said he always live devotional songs.
His scientific preaching is well known and his students are carrying it on nicely. He was extremely charming and made friends with many big scientists. He also worked extensively with Interfaith groups, bringing leaders of many faiths to Sridham Mayapura.
He preached extensively in Bali and other parts of Indonesia, making many disciples. He loved it here and siad it was just like Manipura. They love him and quickly learned Manipura kirtan melodies. He quickly learned and loved Balinese melodies.
I wish I could glorify him properly. It helps me to overcome my envious nature
