4-Week Syllabus: Ground-Level Śāstric Management
Dear Gurudeva,
Please accept my most respectful obeisances. All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.
This is a response to the letter https://monkeywarrior.com/detail/16380/
Thank you so much for your deeply insightful response, your humor, and for testing the practical application of this proposal. Your reflections regarding Tom Brown, Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, and the everyday reality of our devotees provided immense clarity.
You rightly pointed out that our ultimate objective is kṛṣṇa-prema and that any management framework must teach people "how to peel the banana properly"—meaning it must offer simple, ground-level, practical help for daily devotional life.
Inspired by a recent interview with Gauranga Das on The Namarasa Podcast (https://youtu.be/JNmEfbxGoOA?si=lKa62Ba2BMWP-ikg) and strictly grounded in Śrīla Prabhupāda’s translations of Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Bhagavad-gītā, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and Śrī Upadeśāmṛta, I have consolidated the core practical points into a concise 4-Session Syllabus (60 minutes per session):
Consolidated 4-Week Syllabus: Ground-Level Śāstric Management
Session 1: Sustaining the Devotee: Urban Sādhana & The Need for Structure
- Practical Focus: How congregational householders living far from the temple can maintain Śrīla Prabhupāda’s sādhana standards (brāhma-muhūrta, maṅgala-āratī, S.B.) through yukta-vairāgya without burning out. We will discuss why Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s internal absorption required Rūpa and Sanātana Gosvāmīs to write operational handbooks (Hari-bhakti-vilāsa)—showing that structure is the daily vehicle that protects our purity (CC Ādi 10.90).
Session 2: The Three Pillars of Order & Supporting the Brāhmaṇa
- Practical Focus: Exploring Śāstra (Prabhupāda's books), Śiṣya (humble attitude, BG 2.7), and Śāsana (clear daily schedules and roles). We will see how a lack of Śāsana causes groups to decline into Śastra (authoritarianism and raised voices). Additionally, we will address how to equip scholarly/spiritual profiles with basic management habits so they are not overwhelmed by complex logistics.
Session 3: Crisis Management: Moving from Drama to Resolution
- Practical Focus: Understanding the 5 stages of every project: Vision ➔ Planning ➔ Detail ➔ Problem ➔ Drama. Devotees will learn how to stop emotional Drama when technical problems arise, training leaders to calmly review prior steps (Was detail missing? Was planning flawed?) and fix technical errors with tolerance (BG 2.14).
Session 4: The Character of the Servant (Dāsa-tattva) & Non-Reaction
- Practical Focus: Studying the four qualities of a true servant described in Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Madhya 17.15) regarding Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya: Su-snigdha (genuine affection), Paṇḍita (practical intelligence), Sādhu (honesty without duplicity), and Ārya (noble behavior). We will connect this with holding a personal Lakṣmaṇa Rekha (Śrī Upadeśāmṛta, Text 1), showing that true spiritual leadership is demonstrated through self-control and restraint during conflicts.
Format, Scope & Request for Your Guidance
- Audience & Reach: This online seminar is open to all ISKCON members, managers, and aspiring preachers across North America, Latin America, Europe, and beyond. It will be offered bilingually (English/Spanish).
- Duration & Platform: 4 Weekly Virtual Sessions of 60 minutes total via Google Meet / GoToMeeting. Each session will consist of a concise presentation followed by an interactive iṣṭagoṣṭhī (Q&A and discussion).
Gurudeva, while this is a formal proposal inspired by the insights shared on The Namarasa Podcast, I deeply value your realization, wisdom, and guidance above all. If you approve of this streamlined 4-session direction, I would be deeply grateful for your thoughts, input, or any specific instructions on how we can better assist the devotees in maintaining the standards Śrīla Prabhupāda envisioned for us.
Your servant,
Nikunja Bihari Das.

Srila Prabhupada says that old age is a good friend for a devotee.
In our youth we managed and organized incredible complex systems, like the Gurukula in Lima for one year etc.
Zonal Financial Officer for Hansadutta Swami.
Just looking at the complexity of the four sessions stops us cold in our tracks.
However, it does look much, much, better than last time.
If others want to join and manage their minds through this format, then we are very, very, very, very happy to join with specific topics for any or all of the sessions.
Thank you so much!!
Thank you!!!!
